Beverly’s Enslaved and Freed

February 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free – $10.00

Have you ever wondered about some of the first African-Americans in Beverly? In this program we will tell stories of some African-Americans and other people of color through objects and documents in Historic Beverly’s collection, whether mentioned in ship cargo logs, wills, bills of sale, newspapers, and many other documents, including some associated with anti-slavery organizations. We will discuss how some of Beverly’s citizens either participated in the trade of enslaved people of color or worked toward Abolition, and highlight the formerly enslaved and free Black population within Beverly’s early history.

$10/free for members
