This virtual walking tour will explore an extensive area of Beverly’s Cove neighborhood, originally called Cove Village. The tour explores the transformation of the land from an agrarian village to a bustling neighborhood with the addition of the trolley line. Business history also is explored, including the ever-popular Woodberry Tavern and the Cove Green House (now Leonhard’s). Considered one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, this virtual walking tour will explore its extensive history and growth through the building of its first church, the formation of a smallpox hospital, the eviction of a sitting president, and the arrival of an all-girls college located on the coast. Tune in to discover the rich history of this small area of the city.
