Salem Witch Trials Remembrance Day
September 22 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us for a remembrance event at Hale Farm as we honor the voices of resistance that transcended the injustices of the Salem Witch Trials.
September 22nd was the largest execution day of the Salem Witch trials; eight people were executed. It would also be the last execution day. While Beverly is not often thought of in association with the 1692 trials, multiple people from Beverly were involved as accusers, as accused, and as those speaking out against the trials. The event will begin with a short talk highlighting the courage of those who opposed the trials: a merchant who came and saw what happened and decided people should know; a soon-to-be-executed victim who advocated for the people around her; and a reverend who defended the accused and defied a governmental gag order to tell the truth. The talk will be followed by laying flowers in tribute at spots designated for each victim that will then be taken to the memorial in Salem to be laid on their respective stone.
