Historic House Spotlight: Cabot House Parlor

November 6, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 2:00 pm on Saturday, repeating until November 27, 2021

The John Cabot House is a Georgian style mansion built in 1781 during the Revolutionary War; it was the first brick mansion built in Beverly. The wealth of the Cabot family is reflected in the architecture of the house, the beautifully carved paneling, and decorations such as the Dutch tiles surrounding the fireplace in the parlor room. It would have been furnished with elegant furniture and decorative objects from around the world, a showplace to emphasize the success of John Cabot. In this room you can find a painting by Gilbert Stuart, a Chickering piano, the bust of John Milton and a vase that survived its journey through a typhoon in the China Sea. This Spotlight Talk will examine the parlor room in depth; it’s almost like being here!  Free and open to all; join us here.

Get the inside story on objects, events, and our historic houses with Spotlight Tours and Historic House Spotlights. These tours are brief, casual, intimate conversations that take place throughout the month. Topics change regularly but may include visitor favorites or an object you have not explored yet!
