Elegance Reborn: The Revival of a 19th Century Piano

October 20 @ 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm

$10.00 – $15.00

Step back in time at this 30-minute musical history program and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of the early 19th century as Viennese pianist Daniel Adam Maltz reflects on and showcases Historic Beverly’s meticulously restored c.1823 Chickering square grand piano. This exceptional instrument, lovingly brought back to its former glory this year, offers a rare opportunity to experience music as it was intended to be heard during the Classical and early Romantic periods.

Locally owned by Mary Bridges Brown, the second wife of Moses Brown (1748-1820), the piano offers a distinct sound that reflects the musical aesthetics of its era. Its lighter, more intimate tone provides a unique listening experience, revealing nuances that are often overshadowed by contemporary pianos. The recent restoration of this fortepiano has restored its authentic voice, ensuring a performance that honors the spirit of the original composers. Light refreshments will be served.

Limited seating at 3 performances. $15/$10 HB members and Card to Culture
