Historically, samplers were a common way for young girls to learn needlework skills and demonstrate their achievement and industry in an artistic manner. Samplers were often worked as part of a girl’s common education, stitching alphabets, numerals, geometric shapes, and Bible verses as well as animal, botanical, and historical motifs. Historic Beverly has several outstanding examples of early American samplers in its collection. In this workshop you’ll learn needlework basics and begin creating your own replica of a sampler in Historic Beverly’s collection. Registration required by July 14 to secure your spot and ensure available materials.
